Q
Do you teach classes or workshops?

I’m sorry. I don’t. My ego isn’t big enough to think I can tell other people what they’re doing is wrong or right.

The beauty of photography, like any art is once you learn the “rules”, you’re basically meant to break them. It’s a strange irony that you have to stay within the box to learn a craft, but upon completion, the further you stray from the box, the more likely you are to have success.

Q
Are you THE Matt Blum?!

Ummm… I’m A Matt Blum. I’m sure there’s plenty of other people that share the name :)

"Phoenix"

Great story behind this photo and an unforgettable experience. Model, Xoe took herself to the brink for this set. Emotionally drained, she left it all out there. Real tears, real emotion, a real moment. Very proud to have been a part of it. View high resolution

Sunrise at 30,000 feet. It’s moments like these when you get a brief glimpse of heaven. In all the work, and rushing, and go go go of the world, you lose track of things like this sometimes… then you have a flash of this kind of beauty… take a deep breath… and all is right in the world.

Good morning everyone. View high resolution

Q
How do you select the models that you work with?

Carefully.

But seriously, you never know unless you ask. Most people are too shy or have too large of an ego perhaps to ask for a collaboration. Sometimes I get emails through Instagram (@blumphotography) or Facebook saying “I liked your status” in the most whiny way possible as if simply liking a status I posted about casting would imply that one was interested more than the casual viewer who “likes” to show support. Does that make sense?

Overall lesson… it never hurts to ask. ;)
